Privacy Policy

The short version: your photos never leave your phone, there's no account to create, and we don't run ads or trackers. The long version follows.

LAST UPDATED · 12 JUNE 2026

Threadcheck was designed so that we know as little about you as possible. We can't sell, leak, or lose what we never collect.

What happens when you scan a tag

When you point the camera at a care label, the photo is processed entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device text recognition. The photo itself is never uploaded. Only the recognised text — the words printed on the label, such as "100% cotton, wash cold" — is sent to our server for analysis.

If you choose to save a scan, the photo is stored locally on your device only, inside the app's own storage. Delete the scan (or the app) and it's gone. If you don't save a scan, the photo is discarded immediately.

What happens when you paste a link

When you paste a product URL, our server fetches that public product page and extracts the garment information from it. The URL you submitted is processed to produce your result; we don't build a profile of what you shop for.

What we send to our server

Label text is analysed by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude, via our Cloudflare-hosted service) to extract the garment's composition, care instructions and certifications. Scan counters are stored against the random device ID. We do not store your scan photos on any server.

What we don't collect

Payments

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple's handling of that data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Service providers

Our scanning service runs on Cloudflare (hosting and request handling) and uses Anthropic's Claude API (label-text analysis). Both receive only what's described above: label text or product URLs, never your photos or identity.

Data retention & deletion

Your scan history lives on your device. Deleting the app deletes it. Server-side, we keep only scan counters tied to the random device ID; these expire on their own or persist solely to enforce the free-scan limit. If you'd like the counters for your device ID cleared, email us and we'll do it.

Children

Threadcheck is a shopping utility and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children included — because we don't collect personal information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is material, we'll say so plainly in the app's release notes.
